Cyffordd Crow Nest

Welcome to Crow Nest Junction!

Following rationalisation of the lines between Wigan, Bolton and Atherton, Crow Nest Junction signal box was opened by BR on October 1st 1972. Built to replace a much larger 92 lever box, most of which had become surpless to requirements, the box controlled movements over the double track junction until its closure and subsequent transfer to Manchester Picadilly Signalling Centre on July 28th 2013.

This simulation depicts operations as they would have been shortly before closure, with Warrington Power Box on the Down Main, Manchester Piccadilly Signalling Centre on the Up Main and Atherton (or Walkden, when Atherton was switched out) on the Branch line. Regulation is required to keep trains moving and on time, so make sure to keep an eye on the timetable, as some trains will need to be stopped to allow others to pass and not all trains stops at Hindley.

This is the first in a series of simulations and any feeback would be much appreciated. You can get in touch via our Facebook page or using the email adress listed at the bottom of this page.

Good luck!
